Chemical & Bio-Waste Disposal

Segregation Instructions

Store the following separately:

Acids
Bases
Solvents
Waste/Used Oils
Solids (Agar/Silica)
Sharps (Glass/Metal)

Liquid Waste: Store ONLY in 1L or 2.5L bottles (compatible with crates).

Tagging: Attach "Hazardous Chemical Waste Tag" immediately upon collection.

Removal: Request removal when bottle is 80% full. Do not submit half-filled bottles.

Transport: Use trolleys. Never carry bottles by hand.

Disposal Cycle: Sent to RAMKY once every 3 months.

Critical Notes:

  • Incompatible chemical wastes must not be mixed.
  • Best container is the original chemical bottle (deface label).
  • Glass is preferred; metal/plastic usually not recommended.
  • Check for leaks (including lids).

Gas Cylinder Safety

Storage

  • Upright position and chained to wall.
  • Well ventilated area, away from exits/heat/corrosives.
  • Mark empty cylinders "EMPTY" and store separately.
  • Flammables must be 6 meters from Oxygen cylinders.
  • Toxic gases in gas cabinets.

Usage

  • Refer to MSDS before use.
  • Never apply excessive force to valves.
  • Use soap/water for leak check. No flames.
  • Oxygen + Oil = Explosion. Keep O2 regulators grease-free.
  • Close valve when finished.
